Scouts at 8th Alton
8th Alton has two Scout Troops.
In Scouts, young people are introduced to more activites, more adventures and more opportunities. Scouts invites young people to step up and develop skills in context of adventures – for example, they might learn to tie a knot before then building a bridge they have to walk across, or learn to read maps before successfully hiking a route.
While in Scouts, members will be able to join in different types of camps – from hammocking to backwoods, and adventurous activities that might include climbing and abseiling. Scouts earn awards and badges and are introduced to the possibility of attending International Jamborees.
Pathfinders
Day & Time: Tuesday 7pm
Leader: Dan Miles (Skip)
Dan says:
“We believe that Scouts is a great place to try new things. Whether it is building bridges or learning how to be resourceful, our aim for the group is to be active physically and mentally.”
Pioneers
Day & Time: Friday 7:15pm
Leaders: Steve Cassidy (Vine) & Darren White (Typhoon)
Steve says:
“Scouts is a place to get challenged – we learn new skills and to work with each other. We enjoy backwoods camping in hammocks and cooking over fires.”
Scout Uniform Badges
When you move from Cubs to Scouts, you keep your neckerchief / scarf and a few badges. These are:
- the ‘membership award’ (the circular purple badge with a fluer de lis)
- Group name (8th Alton)
- District Badge
If you have been awarded your Chief Scout’s Award, you can wear that too.
