Explorers at 8th Alton

8th Alton hosts Weyfarers Explorer Unit, which is overseen by the District.

In Explorers, the young adults are given more responsibility and more opportunities. As Young Leaders they can undertake training in first response and leadership while supporting the junior sections and they can join the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme. All while joining in with a host of activities.

The opportunities available for Explorers are awesome! Every member has the opportunity to take part in regular short camps such as coasteering and hammock camps, a French ‘Port-to-Port’ experience and Duke of Edinburgh Award expeditions, and longer camps including international trips and adventure camps.

Many of the awards available for Explorers can be earned through effort during own time. Explorer Scouts are encouraged and supported to take on more and to focus on things that interest and excite them.

Our hope is that our Explorers ‘graduate’ from us with new skills, a great understanding of what they can do, a range of awards, memories of 12 years of phenominal experiences in Scouting that last a lifetime and a passion to share their skills with the next generation.

Caz says:

“Our aim is for Explorers to take the lead on what we do. Leaders support and guide, but the programme ideas are yours – from weekly sessions to the camps. We would love for all our Explorers to have experienced something new while with us.”
