Beavers at 8th Alton

8th Alton currently hosts two Beaver Colonies.

For children aged 6 to 8, our groups offer a variety of activities enabling Beavers to learn new skills both physical and developmental. We use game play, craft, outdoors and physical activities to teach Scouting skills and encourage an adventurous spirit.

During their time with us, Beavers have the opportunity to take part in overnight sleepovers at the Cabin, cooking over a fire and even attend their first camps in tents. There are many awards and badges that they work towards helping them understand what they are capable of and experience of worldly challenges, like caring for the environment and each other.

Leader: Lorraine Reid (Willow)

Lorraine says:

“Beavers is a lovely place to begin experiencing new things. Through lockdown we’ve learned to draw, met alpacas and cooked some amazing treats. Now we are face-to-face, we are enjoying new activities.”

Beaver Uniform Badges

Before you start Beavers you do not need to worry about buying anything! Come along and see how you get on. If you’d like to join us, you can buy the uniform and we will provide the badges.

When invested (the process of joining), you will receive a scarf / neckerchief, a woggle, a membership award (the purple badge), the Scout Group name tape and a District Badge.

Throughout your time in Beavers, we hope that you earn an arm full of badges and a chest full of challenge awards.

Read more about uniform badges and more about activity and challenge badges on the Scout website.

Scouting is popular. It helps to get your name down early (yes, before your 5th birthday!) to avoid missing out.

While we do our best to provide a group to match what you need, we place children as spaces appear. We make no promises about availability or placement in specific groups.

8th Alton Scout Group has previously hosted three Beaver Colonies. Because of a leader shortage, we have had to merge two groups together, reducing the places available. We would love to restart the third because we know how valuable Beavers is to starting a young person’s development, but this requires your help.

The simple fact is that to allow more children in to Beavers needs more adults to volunteer and support it. If you are willing to help, we can restart the third group. Please let us know in the form.
